New Year celebrations last four days

The Burmese create a big deal of the New Year. Thingyan, known as the "water throwing festival," is well known in April. This year it occurs April 13-16.
Everything shuts down within the four-day New Year banks, restaurants, shops. The largest celebrations are in Yangon and Mandalay.

The web arrived in Myanmar in 2000, but high costs and slow connections mean will still be not widely used.
Under the former government, websites for example YouTube and G-mail were blocked, but restrictions have largely been lifted and recently Google chairman Eric Schmidt visited the nation.
